Welcome to this week’s meeting of the eClub of the State of Jefferson.
I am Bob Gibson, President of the Rotary eClub of State of Jefferson. Welcome to this week’s meeting. I hope this finds you well.
Many of you have an extensive history in Rotary. I think most of us have had that one experience that really galvanizes our commitment to Rotary. One special experience that I remember is listening to a presentation by Dr. Joe Serra. Dr. Serra is a retired orthopedic surgeon who has traveled to Malawi on medical service trips to operate on the “crawlers.” The crawlers are people ravaged by polio who are unable to stand. Their mobility is limited to crawling. The surgery released their bound limbs and enabled them to stand upright. This had a profound impact on their relationships within their culture. They were treated with respect and became productive members of their culture. Dr. Serra’s presentation brought the impact of polio and Rotary’s role in the eradication of this disease to light.
I have recently reviewed our contribution records to The Rotary Foundation. Our Annual Fund Goal is $4,000. We have donated $6,420 this Rotary year. Our Polio-Plus goal is $3,000. We have donated $1,234 this year. The eradication of polio has been a major goal of Rotary International. We are very close to achieving this. It does require continued support from all of us.
Thank you for your interest in our Club and your commitment to “Service above Self.”
Enjoy the meeting.
