Having our own private Crowdfunding?
At PETS (President Elect Training), there was a club that asks new members “what project would you like to do?” Instead of saying, “these are our projects where do you fit.” It’s a way to do the impossible – get people engaged from the beginning.
So what do you
think about asking all our members, not just new members, to propose a project? Nothing big but something that is close to your heart and a part of the Rotary mission. For example, let’s say we can find $200 - $500 for you do a project, what would it be? How would it impact the people in your community and be good for the club? How about working with your local Terra club?
You put together a proposal and present it to the club, just like GoFundMe.com. We donate to your project. Once you have enough volunteers and funding you launch the project, collect receipts, and share the progress with us all.
You post pictures online, make a short video, record some of the voices and sounds, and share this with the club so we are part of the project. Of course, you get buckets of points, badges and other fun stuff.
These are our projects, this is our club. This is the heart of Rotary. We can share the projects through social media channels, get people excited and let them know they have a home, a place where they can make friends and build futures.
This is who we are. And have been. Here is an excerpt from the 2015 Service Projects Committee Goals:
- Establish a process for proposal, approval, completion and monitoring of projects
- Solicit club members to propose service projects and lead them to completion
- Encourage club members to develop relationships with their local Rotary club and community organizations for joint fundraising and service projects
We have the technology to do this without adding to the burden of the Treasurer. It’s been around for decades and is so well established that the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) has set up rules so we all can invest in new ideas.
